KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – The SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Geographic Information Network (SOX RGIN) and RGIN 2 collaborated on geoportal administration and geospatial data processing training for SOX RGIN’s network administrators and members on June 13-16, 2022 in Koronadal City.

Mr. Giovani Manggudayao of NRO 2, the developer of the Geoportal, and Mr. Janwell Floresca of the Isabela State University (ISU), both from RGIN 2, facilitated the trainings as part of the RGIN Geoportal Replication Project being spearheaded by DOST and NEDA.

The network administrators of the SOX RGIN Regional GIS Center were trained in geoportal administration on June 13-14, 2022 at the DOST Regional Office XII. They learned how to modify, manage and maintain the geonode platform, the building block of the RGIN Geoportal, that will be utilized by the SOX RGIN members for sharing geospatial data.

For the geospatial data processing, 21 SOX RGIN focal persons from regional line agencies, LGUs, and SUCs were trained in the processing and manipulation of geospatial data (GIS maps – raster and vector files) on June 15-16, 2022 at the Paraiso Verde Hotel. Exercises in projection and cartography, sieving (overlaying), geospatial data analysis, data conversion, and map lay-outing were also done.

The SOX RGIN is overseen by a special committee of RDC XII. It is a regional network for the generation, processing, utilization, analysis, and sharing of geospatial information and knowledge. The Network was established through RDC XII Resolution No. 142, series of 2021, “Adopting the SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Geographic Information Network (SOX RGIN)”, passed during the Council’s 75th Regular Meeting on December 07. 2021.
