Koronadal City, South Cotabato – The 5th tree growing festival of the City Government of Koronadal kicked off at 4:30 in the morning with a short program and the Panunumpa sa Kalikasan held at the city Round Ball on June 29, 2015.
The festival, which started in 2011, was given added significance with the issuance of Proclamation No. 1050 declaring June 29, 2015 as a special nonworking holiday to give the people of Koronadal the opportunity to participate in the occasion. Further, the annual event is the city’s response to the present call for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
To provide a festive mood to the activity, the Hinugyaw Dance Troupe of the City rendered a dance number expressing the importance of planting and nurturing trees and saving the environment.
Thereafter, Mayor Peter B. Miguel gave an inspirational message to all the volunteer planters and encouraged them to plant trees properly and take care of the natural resources.
