KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – Heightened efforts on the implementation of the Local Government Support Fund – Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF – SBDP) in identified priority barangays of Region 12 was emphasized by Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security ( CORDS) of Region 12, TESDA Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña during the 24th Joint Regional Task Force (JRTF) to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (JRTF ELCAC) XII meeting on December 23, 2021 in General Santos City. CORDS Lapeña requested the JRTF in the region to fast-track the implementation of the Local Government Support Fund – Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF – SBDP) to discourage groups and personalities from taking advantage of the program for political interests. Each barangay is expected to receive PHP20 million under the LGSF-SBDP.
CORDS Lapeña also announced that the Bi-Cameral committee has allotted Php 17 Bilion to fund various ELCAC projects, particularly those under the Barangay Development Program (BDP). This is part of the continuing campaign to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), nationwide. The Bicameral committee is a joint panel composed of members from the House of Representatives and the Senate.
“The Bi-cameral conference committee agreed to appropriate Php 17 billion pesos to the NTF-ELCAC. We may not have been able to secure the original proposed budget, but the amount the Bi-cam agreed to allot to the task force will be of great help in the continuation of our barangay development projects.” said Lapeña.
Other concerns tackled during the meeting were updates on the roll-out of the Bayanihan, Bakunahan National COVID 19 Vaccination Days with a reported total of 1,327,124 fully vaccinated individuals in the region according to reports from the Department of Health (DOH) XII.
