City of Koronadal, South Cotabato – The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), 2017-2022 was launched on November 28, 2017 at The Farm@Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City.

In the said event, the National Economic and Development Authority XII Choir sang the AmBisyon Natin 2040 song together with its ever supportive Regional Director Arturo G. Valero.  The song is the regional advocacy for the attainment of the Philippine Vision by 2040 to have a prosperous, predominantly middle-class society where no one is poor and people enjoy long and healthy lives.

The PPAN, 2017-2022 is anchored on the AmBisyon Natin 2040, the Philippine Development Plan, and the 0-10 socioeconomic agenda of the Duterte Administration.

Ms. Arceli M. Latonio of the National Nutrition Council XII introduced the PPAN to more than 300 nutrition advocates coming from the regional line agencies, non-government organization, and local government units.

The commitment of support to address all forms of malnutrition and to improve the nutritional status of the Filipino was announced by concerned partner agencies and program implementers.

There was also an unveiling of the PPAN programs.  Eight (8) programs are nutrition-specific:  a) infant and young child feeding program, b) integrated management of acute malnutrition, c) national dietary supplementation program, d) national nutrition promotion program for behaviour change e) micronutrient supplementation program, f) mandatory fortification program, g) nutrition in emergencies program, h) overweight and obesity management and prevention program;  one (1) is nutrition-sensitive which is the development of programs and projects tweaked to produce nutritional outcomes ; and three (3) are nutrition enabling programs: a) mobilization of local government units for nutrition outcomes, b) policy development for food and nutrition and c) strengthened management support to the PPAN.    RD Valero was among those who unveiled the PPAN programs.

The launching was capped by the awarding of the 2016 outstanding nutrition program implementers.  The award for the Regional Outstanding Municipality was received by Mayor Honey L. Matti of Polomolok LGU.  This year’s,Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar was bagged by Ms. Medy Repollo of Barangay Sudapin, Kidapawan City.   There were also other awards given like the outstanding barangay nutrition committee in the region, best gulayan projects and the rest are winners of the Nutrition Month celebration.
