April 28, 2015 – The Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) 2015 kicked off today during the opening meeting of the Regional Search Committee (RSC) XII at the NEDA Regional Office XII, Koronadal City.

Chaired by Arturo G. Valero, Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) XII, the Committee agreed to intensify its efforts to generate a broader pool of nominees in the region, particularly those working in rural communities.

Following last year’s victory of Region XII nominee Datu Lamberto A. Delfin, an Obo Manobo tribal leader in Kidapawan City, as recipient of the National Outstanding Volunteer Award (NOVA, the members of RSC XII expressed optimism that Region XII can once again produce a national awardee.

The said launching was also graced by Col. Celestino F. Desamito, Jr., National Volunteer awardee and Volunteerism Lifetime Achievement Award nominee, who shared his personal experiences and milestones on volunteerism since his college days until retirement.

Col. Desamito also advanced some recommendations for the RSC XII to endorse to the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA). These include organizing an association of national/regional volunteer awardees in Region XII, expanding the membership of the RSC XII to include at least one representative from the said association, and conducting a region-to-region exchange of national/regional volunteers.

The SOV 2015 is spearheaded by PNVSCA in partnership with NEDA. It is open to all individuals and organizations currently providing volunteer assistance in the Philippines. It aims to highlight the exemplary performance and dedication to service of Filipino volunteers in helping people and communities, recognizing their role in development and nation-building.

Evaluation and nomination of qualified candidates is being led by the RSCs of respective regions. The regional nominees are subsequently endorsed to the National Steering Committee (NSC) for final review and conferment. The deadline for applications in Region XII is extended on May 22, 2015.

The RSC XII is composed of principal representatives from NEDA XII, CSC XII, TESDA XII, DILG XII, CHED XII, PIA XII and a private sector representative. The committee will convene again on May 28, 2015 for the initial evaluation of regional nominees. (Melissa Gabrielle H. Vargas/ NEDA 12-PDIPBD)
