Koronadal City, South Cotabato – As part of the retooling program for its officers and employees, the NEDA Regional Office No. XII conducted an earthquake drill on July 23, 2015 at the office vicinity. This is in line with the 2nd Quarter 2015 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
The drill started at exactly 9 o’clock in the morning and participated in by the NEDA XII officers and employees. As part of the drill, the Disaster Control Group of the office was tasked to observe and check on how the employees responded to the disaster which was made known through an emergency alarm.
An evaluation of the activity was conducted after the drill. NRO XII RD Arturo G. Valero reminded the employees that although the activity was just a drill, it should be done with seriousness and alertness. “This should be taken seriously as the occurrence of earthquakes and other disasters is always possible,” he added.
For the employees to appreciate how being knowledgeable on disaster preparedness saves lives, a film viewing entitled San Andreas, where hundreds of lives were lost and properties damaged by earthquake, was shown. (Helen L. Vestal and Ian Rowe S. Giron/NEDA XII)
