City of Koronadal, South Cotabato – The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) XII conducted an in-house Nutrition Month Program on July 12, 2017 to promote health and wellness. Ms. Annalita Mae V. Flores of NNC XII oriented the NEDA XII staff on nutrition for all ages and nutri-tips for adult and elderly.
NEDA XII Regional Director Arturo G. Valero mentioned in his opening message that NEDA is supportive of the nutrition program and considered it in the preparation of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) and the Regional Development Plan (RDP) for 2017-2022. A healthy and resilient society is articulated in the AmBisyon Natin 2040 on which the strategies identified in the PDP and RDP, such as investing on human capital through health and education, were based.
The in-house program was highlighted by the conduct of health assessment and diet counselling. Ms. Leah Fe B. Utlang of NNC XII facilitated the height and weight taking of the NEDA XII staff to determine their body mass index (BMI). The BMI is an indicator used to determine overweight and obesity.
During the health assessment, some staff has normal BMI, while others are overweight and obese. Ms. Flores and Ms. Utlang advised the NEDA staff with BMI categorized as overweight and obese to observe the three (3) principles in nutrition – balance, variety and moderation, and to regulate their eating habit to gradually achieve their appropriate BMI, particularly for those with ages 50 and above.
The activity was concluded with the awarding of the Certificate of Appreciation to the resource persons by RD Valero. The NEDA XII also displayed a streamer on its office building at the Prime Regional Government Center, Brgy. Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City as part of its advocacy for the Nutrition Month Celebration. (Evie Arabis Cabulanan, NEDA XII-DRD)
