Koronadal City, South Cotabato – The quarterly simultaneous earthquake drill was undertaken at the Prime Regional Government Center in Koronadal City on November 14, 2019. In support of the country’s effort of preparing its citizens to respond and react accordingly in times of natural or man-made disasters, NEDA XII, joined other regional line agencies in performing the internationally acknowledged appropriate action during earthquakes which is to Drop, Cover, and Hold.
Post-earthquake protocols were also observed, including converging at the evacuation site, tapping the person beside them, a head count per division, and inspection of the office building before resuming occupancy.
This activity has gained much-needed attention due to the series of earthquakes that hit the region on October 16, 29, and 31, 2019 causing devastation in several areas particularly in the Municipalities of Tulunan and Makilala in Cotabato Province, and parts of Davao region (Region XI).
The quarterly conduct of the activity aims to test the office’s readiness and responsiveness, and capacity to assess and respond to various situations, particularly during earthquakes. It also aims to increase the commitment of government workers to make behavioral changes by treating drills such as this with utmost seriousness. (Joseph Didius L. Clave, NEDA XII-DRD)
