City of Koronadal, South Cotabato – Executive Order 71 reverts the attachment of the Commission on Population to the National Economic and Development Authority from the Department of Health.

EO 71 signed into law on December 13, 2018 by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte strengthens the Commission’s coordination lines with NEDA, thereby boosting its capability to develop and implement  population-related plans, policies, programs and projects.

The EO also renames the Commission on Population (POPCOM) into the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) to be headed by an Executive Director with the same rank of an undersecretary.

POPCOM, created by virtue of Presidential Decree No 79, is tasked to formulate and adopt coherent, integrated and comprehensive long term plans, programs and recommendations on population.

Posted in the NEDA Website, Secretary Ernesto Pernia welcomes POPCOM under the NEDA wings and expressed that the said EO will certainly step up the implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) Law.  (Evie Arabis Cabulanan, NEDA XII-DRD)
